Jan 06
Finally the winter series is upon us again..... Despite losing Moneyscalp for last year's Plush Winter league and using the Ballycarton DH track, the winter league is back to it's usual home in Moneyscalp, the home of the first 2005 Irish NPS, with a slight variation in that two of the dates this year has a venue change - Big Wood, between Newry and Warrenpoint, Co Down.
According to Ricky and Joe at Plush, the first track for the Moneyscalp race start in the usual part of the fire road and into the bus stop at
the top, down the fire road, turn right into the forest, through the
twisty top section leading down to the ever decreasing ski jump!! There is a
slightly new section after the ski jump and berm and then over the step down /
water jump for the finale.'
Bigwood is a brand new track, built by William Prescott and Glyn O'Brien and the other local guys, the track starts at the top of the quarry and finished near the road, with bomb holes, berms, jumps and drops. This track will be a great way to blow out the winter cobwebs!

A new race licence has been introduced for mountain bikers, meaning that the first time a rider races in a Cycling Ireland affiliated race, they automatically become Cycling Ireland members. For all the answers on Race Licences for 2006 see RACE LICENCES FOR DUMMIES which will be online ASAP!
No Mini Bikes in Moneyscalp Forest
Obviously, as usual, the organisers don't want to spoil anyones fun but they do not have permission from the Forestry to allow Mini Bikes or similar in the forest during the event. Please don't put the organisers in a position where riders are disqualified for breaking this rule. Its only a short walk to the top! This has also been an issue with Big Wood in the past, it is advised, anyone going into Bigwood, or indeed Moneyscalp please be aware of other users of the forest, don't leave rubbish and don't bring your mini bikes.
Weather
As usual with it being winter we can almost predict it to be raining, although things could change. keep an eye of the weather for Moneyscalp HERE! and Bigwood HERE!
