World Cups

For 2006 it is not required for riders to hold UCI points in order to race in World Cup Downhill events. It will be up to the MTB committee to decide who is eligible to be entered in World Cup events based on experience, ability and performance. Any riders wishing to be entered in World Cup events should contact the Team Manager at least 4 weeks before the event. PLEASE NOTE – World Cup racing is at the pinnacle of the sport and a high standard is required. Riders wishing to compete in World Cups should be of Elite standard, or a top Junior rider, and should have experience of racing outside of Ireland. World Cup races are non-funded so anyone wishing to race will have to be self-sufficient. Riders must hold a Cycling Ireland Full International Racing Licence.

European/World Championships

Any Rider wishing to be considered for selection for European or World Championships in 2006 should prepare a CV and post/e-mail it to the Team Manager by the 31 st January 2006 .

Mr Brian Wolfe, Irish Downhill Team Manager,
Clonbeg Balure Lane
Church Road
Killiney Co Dublin

Or e-mail the CV to briandanwood@eircom.net

The CV should include details of past performance, goals and how those goals may be achieved. The ‘Irish DH Squad’ will be selected from applicants and the Squad will be announced by 28 th February. As part of the selection process applicants will be contacted by a DH committee member and an interview will be arranged. All Applicants must hold a Cycling Ireland Full International Racing Licence.

The teams for the Euros and Worlds will be selected from the squad based on past performance, potential, goals and recent results. Although selection will not be based solely on the following races, it is recommended that squad members wishing to be selected compete in as many as possible.

Scottish NPS1 – Innerleithen

Irish NPS1 - Lumpers

Irish NPS2 - Ballycarton

British NPS2 - Fortwilliam

World CUP 2 - Fortwilliam

Irish Champs - Rostrevor

The funding position for the Euros and Worlds is unclear at present and will be discussed with the squad as details become available.

The decisions of the DH committee regarding selection will be final in all cases.
