Chain Reaction Cycling Club awarded £10,000 by National Lottery

August 07

The National Lottery’s small grants scheme has recently awarded Chain Reaction Cycling Club £10,000 with a view to the club purchasing it's own timing equipment to be used in downhill events organised by the cycling club.

The award was announced at the beginning of August and was part of the Awards for All National Lottery grants throughout Northern Ireland which totalled £730,878 to 114 organisations including community groups, schools and charities, sports clubs, arts projects and heritage schemes.

The funds were awarded as part of an application process which the club undertook since March 2007. Following the decision by Awards for All, Chain Reaction Cycles were informed of the decision at the beginning of August.

Tina Murray of Chain Reaction Cycling Club said "the group are delighted with the funds awarded. It will enable to cycling club to purchase be-spoke equipment which will be used directly for the needs of the club in 2008 and further afield."

"The current timing equipment, which is hired for each race, puts a large burden on the organisers of races as the more riders that turn out to events, the more time consuming and more resources which need to be put into a race.

As with all large purchases, the club will be researching the best equipment for the club and hope to have the timing equipment for the 2008 season."

Chain Reaction Cycling Club would like to thank Awards for All for making a difference to the cycling club and downhill races in Northern Ireland and look forward to the 2008 season.
