Ger Wolfe wins the second round

Winter League Round 2 Race Report

Following the success of the first round of the winter league in Moneyscalp, over 160 riders turned out at Cloon Wood outside Enniskerry to compete for the fastest time in the second round of the Club CRC/Epic Winter League.

Here’s how the riders fared:

U14

Gavin Carroll took his second win of the series with an impressive time of 1.45.134 with round one's second placed winner, Rostrevor's Michael McCann in second with a time of 2.00.485. Matthew McDowell followed Michael, 2 seconds later with a time of 2.02.503 with Kyle Rimmer taking fourth on 2.04.556. Epic Adam Byrne took fifth place with a time of 2.12.82

U16

Following an 'over the bars' crash on his first run, Davy Graham managed first place beating second placed Greg Callaghan by three seconds with a time of 1.37.331. Epic's Greg Callaghan was consistent in both rounds to take second, with banbridge's Peter McCartan taking third with a time of 1.42.429, followed by Bikeology's Mark Potts close behind with 1.43.834. Gavin Kelly had an impressive second run to take fifth with a time of 1.44.005.

Ladies

Unfortunately no ladies turned out for Sunday's event!

Vets

Team Real Cycles/Commencal’s Stevie Davidson took first place for the second week in a row winning by six seconds with a time of 1.40.965. Bananaman Carl Young followed behind with a first run time of 1.46.720 with Epic's Richie Byrne taking third on 1.52.641 with supervet CRC's Derek Cowan going home with fourth place clocking a time of 2.33.308 and Epic's Tom Sheridan coming fifth with a first run time of 3.01.908

Sport

Almost 40 riders turned out for the sport category, and rumour had it 50% of them were Epic members! Epic's Brian Cooney took his second win, having completed his second race by 10 seconds with a time of 1.39.368. MBCC's Martin McCarthy managed second place one second ahead of Epic Rayhaan Farrelly. Martin clocked a time of 1.49.941 while Rayhaan managed to clock 1.50.252. Robert Seth and Darragh Maloney managed to share the 1.52 second to complete fourth and fifth respectively.

Senior

Rory Beirne took first place in second with an impressive 1.35.862. Chain Reaction's Luke Ireland followed to take second place with a time of 1.38.634 with Waterford's Bobby St ledger taking third place with a first run time of 1.39.512. Epic's Sean Herilhy only managed to finish one run and clocked a time of 1.39.570, a fraction of a second behind Bobby, while Andrew Gillis took fifth place on 1.40.195.

Master

Chain Reaction's Joe Ward and Michael Cowan continued their battle for first position but it was Joe's turn to take a win, half a second ahead of Michael on 1.34.384 with Michael clocking a second run time of 1.34.941. Additional Chain Reaction riders Martin McGuigan and Ian McIntye took third and fifth respectively, while Stephen Franzoni took fourth place with a time of 1.38.444.

Junior

Kendor management’s & Epic's Seanan O’Riordan took first place with a time of 1.26.948, beating the first round winner, Ewan Doherty by a second with a time of 1.27.770. Team Real Cycles/Commencal's Karl O’Sullivan took third place with a time of 1.30.096 with Epic's Colin Franklin following on a time of 1.31.767 and Killarney's Jason Murphy on fifth with 1.32.681.

Elite

Local lads Gerard and Dan Wolfe dominated the elite scene by taking first and third positions respectively. Gerard won by a second with a time of 1.21.414 ahead of Ben Reid who completed his second run a fraction of a second quicker than his first round with a time of 1.22.237. Gerard's brother, Daniel took third place with a time of 1.22.502 while Team Real Cycles/Commencal's Stephen Beattie took fourth place with a time of 1.25.519, ahead of Chain Reaction's Dale McMullan.

U16 development fund

As part of the U16 development squad, Chain Reaction Cycles Club and Epic Club have teamed up and will be donating 10euro for every U16 rider towards the development squad. This will enable training days as well as trips to British NPS races. IrishDH would like to thank CRC and Epic for this gesture.
