Rider's Bikes

TC Racing's Alan Clogher's 2006 Race Bike

Kona Stab Supreme

Dec 05

Frame: Kona Stab Supreme

Its deep blue with blue forks. Stickers are standard except for sponsors. Giro and Cyclelogical-bikes.com. Its kona aluminum frame with milled out linkage plates for 2006. Its a size small as I like a short top tube. Slack 65.5deg head angle keeps it stable on the steep and fast stuff. It has a floating rear brake caliper which keeps the rear end active under hard braking. It works really good at places like Fort William etc

Fork: Fox 40RC2

The 8” RC40 work amazingly well. High and low speed compression adjustment, Rebound set quite slow and small bit of preload. I had 888 forks this year and they were amazing but these are better. Lighter and stiffer and def cooler looking.

Rear Shock:Fox 5.0 dhx

3’ stroke with a 350x 3’ spring. Going to stick a ti spring on to it in new year. 90psi and boost valve set all the way in. Pro Pedal set all the way off. Fox Shox Rock.

Stem: Race Face Diabulos

45mm Length standard clamp

Handlebars: Race Face Diabulos

Standard bars with ½” off either end.

Headset: Fsa Pig Pro

Its strong and heavy but works really well and you dont have to touch it.

Grips: RaceFace lock on

Waffle design, very slim as i have small hands and the slimmer grips help with arm pump on longer tracks.

Brakes: Hayes HFX 9 with a BFL Lever

Best brakes on market as far as I am concerned. Put them on and forget about them. One finger stopping power and the BFL lever is a really good feeling lever.

Shifter: Shimano XT

9 speed. Xt is just the best. Big paddle and 100% shifting.

Rear Mech: Shimano XT

I like xt mechs as they are more durable and shift better with xt shifter.

Cranks: Race Face Diabulos

Not the lightest cranks but they are very strong, stiff and they look well. 170mm.

Chain Device: E Thirteen.

Really good chain device. It takes huge punishment and never falters. Very strong and has yet to drop a chain.

Chain Ring: Race face 36t ring

As john said a chain ring is a chain ring. I run a 36 as I am not known for my power.

Block: Shimano Ultegra 12/25

A close ratio block is the way to go. No climbing the hills on this baby.

Pedals: Shimano DX clipless

I clip in. Always have, always will. Just like being connected to bike and I am too old now to change my ways even if I wanted to.

Chain: Shimano Ultegra

The shimano chain. Its ok but they have tendancy to break. Will change to a sram in new year after winter

Hubs: Ringle Abbah DH

Light, strong and a lovely lovely lovely noise from the freehub. Lovely

Rims: Sun MTX Welded

Under rated rim. Extremely strong, not too heavy and look good. I think they are stronger than mavic. You could not go wrong with them.

Tyres: Maxxis High Rollar front and minnion rear.

High roller on front is very strong on roots and brakes well. The minnion on rear I like as it gets a really good slide going and its very predictable.

Seatpost: Race Face diabulous

Clamp the saddle to it and forget about it.

Saddle: Black.

Original saddle was too big for my liking. Changed it for a nice neat SDG.

Thats my bike. I really like the way it rides, it pedals well and feels really good in corners. I am not a very good jumper but this bike is the easiest bike to launch off any size jumps. It def makes up for my shortcomings. The fox forks are really good and make the front end real easy to lift over crap on the trails. No problem in recommending a Kona Stab Supreme to anyone. They are the dogs B***X.
