Rear shock
I didn’t like the fact that the only place for the standard, bulky reservoir for my rear shock was on the swing arm of my bike, connected to the main body by an extra long hydraulic hose.
Over ten years of manual and CNC machining experience meant that I would be able to design and fabricate the perfect reservoir for my shock and bike.
I wanted it to be:-
- Smaller in diameter to be housed on the main frame by an integrated clamp
- Have some sort of pedal platform that could be turned on or of depending on the track, but without having to adjust air pressure and messing up the bottom out.
- Adjustable bottom out

To make it I had to source all the materials and parts needed. I used a Manitou Swinger SPV valve, some bits came from a Manitou Sherman fork, other bits I machined myself in the Chain Reaction machine shop from high grade aluminium, but the only thing I had to buy brand new was a customized Goodridge Hydraulic hose with 3mm bore. I also machined the bespoke mounting bracket to allow the assembled reservoir to sit neatly against the main frame. All was left was to see if it worked!
I headed of to a top secret location in France for a week of rigorous testing, only to find that half of the Irish DH community were there to check it out!
At the bottom of every run I made sure that my legs were free from oil and amazingly they were. If it could withstand the rigours of the Swiss and French National tracks then it would take me any where. (Holy $h1t my head isn’t full of sweetie mice!)
I’ll be taking orders at the next race, but please allow 4 months machining time!

Thanks for Nigel for the pics and Dale for the info. If you'd like to feature your bike send info and pics to Michael@IrishDH.com or get in touch with Nigel to take some snaps!
