Rider's Bikes

Chris Kilmurray's Ancillotti Tomaso

Frame: 2006 Ancillotti Tomaso DHP, Custom sized and painted.

Shock: Ancillotti coil shock, tuned in factory for my skinny arse.

Fork: 2006 Rockshox Boxxer World Cup, Flat crown, 110psi, 3 clicks of compression damping and slow-ish rebound. Every time I ride these forks I am more and more impressed. Smooth and silent. The reduced weight in the front really makes a difference to how quick and nimble the bike feels.

Stem: E-13 Ali Direct-mount stem. Super light and sturdy, I have it set at 55mm reach.

Headset: Ancillotti Headset, Dropped into the frame (like an MX bike), smooth and reliable with the added bonus of an even extra low stack height.

Grips: ODI Lock-On Ruffian, it really is pulling teeth if you bother running anything else, low profile Ruffians are good for arm-pump prevention too.

Bars: Easton EA70 Monkeybar, Mid-Rise, 685mm wide, 31.8mm clamp diameter. Perfect shape, would rather if they were 710mm wide, but they are very light, keeping the overall front end weight down.

Shifter: Shimano XT, Black, with a custom bodge job to the indicator so I can run it inboard of my front brake lever.

Rear Derailleur: Shimano Dura-Ace, Super Short Cage. The best derailleur ever, does not miss a beat, the lightest out there, tough and just a little bit pretty too.

Brakes: 2006 Avid Juicy Seven, 203mm front and rear. I have always used Hope until now, and straight away I was hugely impressed with these, a dream to set up, fantastic modulation which is the biggest difference over my M4’s. A whole load lighter then my 4 pot Hope’s too. Front brake on the right, levers run relatively flat and set–up for one finger braking. I have the red reach-adjusters underneath the levers to keep them out of harms way.

Seatpost & Saddle: SDG I-beam with an I-Fly saddle, the lightest set-up available but durability is still to be seen and I am very sceptical. Time will tell.

Cranks & BB: Shimano XT, 170mm. The best compromise between weight and strength.

Chainring: Ancillotti 40 tooth ring, 4 arm. Simple.

Chain-Guide: Ancillotti Chainguide, all plastic. In 3 years of racing an Ancillotti I have never dropped a chain so it does its job. Lighter then anything else out-there. Silent too.

Cassette: Shimano Dura-Ace, 12-27, works perfect with the derailleur, unbelievable light and strong.

Chain: Sram PC-99, Hollow-pin, the gold link is a legend, no chain-breaker needed.

Pedals: Shimano M-647, Resin cage is way more durable then the old metal ones. Devil pedals are for real men!

Wheels: Hope Bulbs on Mavic EX 721, plain gauge rear and double-butted front DT spokes all silver). The EX 721 gives the best tire profile in my opinion.

Tyres: I run a combination of Maxxis Minion DHF’s, Highrollers and Michelin Comp 16’s and Mud 3’s. Usually Slow Reezay 40a in the Maxxis, different widths and tire pressures depending on conditions.

Tubes: Cheap ones!

I’d like to say a big thanks to Alberto Ancillotti for all of his support and a big thanks to everyone at ChainReactionCycles too. Any questions about an Ancillotti mail me at chris.kilmurray@gmail.com. See you at the races.
