ZealOptics NPS Round 6 - White Horse Forest, Waterford
The long awaited final round of the Zealoptics Irish NPS (Round 5) took place on Sunday 9th October in White Horse Forest, Co Waterford. Home forest of Tom Power, the track attracted almost 100 riders to battle it out for final positions in the Irish Downhill NPS. A wet start to Saturday morning saw most riders finding it difficult to even walk the course, and force them to opt for the mud tyres, although a blustery Sunday morning saw riders quickly change tyres as the track dried up at an amazing pace. The final round of the world cup took place in Fortbill on the 10th, 11th september. To those who have never been, Fort William has been voted the best track on the world cup circuit for the last three years. And rightfully so.Situated on the side of Ben Nevis, the track started about 200 metres below the top gondola station. At an altitude of 625 metres, and being 2.46 killometres in length, it is the most demanding track on the world circuit. An average gradient of 11 degrees, the steepest gradient being 20 degrees, and a vertical drop of 525 metres.... More |

The Real Cycles 4x is happening on Sunday the 28th August.The course is around 20-30 seconds long and is full of doubles, step downs, berms and bumps all freshly smoothed and reshaped by stephen maginn, and the odd helper, over the past few weeks.The course is now smooth, dry and very fast with a few new lines opened up. Points needed for DH World Cup entries UCI,
within the last few days have changed their policy and have announced that to
enter Downhill World Cup riders must have at least 1 UCI point. This is a change
of policy - it had been intended that qualification was to be at the discretion

- £1.5 MILLION FUNDS COULD BE LOST WITHOUT FORESTRY SERVICE SUPPORT.....£550,000
of pledged funding, plus further funding of up to £1.5 million for a Mountain
Bike Centre of Excellence in the Mournes is set to be lost because the Forestry
as of yet, will not pledge their support for the project.

Irish NPS could be the best one so far. After last years sketchy season it was
obvious that something had to be done so the Domestic Racing Committee was set
up with the sole aim of looking after grass roots racing in Ireland. No longer
will most of the effort be put into the National Teams, the new committee will

for Kilbroney Forest.....The Countryside Access and Activities Network
for Northern Ireland (CAAN) has recently announced funding of £132,000 from the
Rural Development Council to be made available for the development of a downhill

Trail Building - Training Given Go Ahead.....Tyrone
Training Services has committed approximately £14,000 to CAAN to train 4 people
in mountain bike trail construction. The course will run over 6 weeks and will
cover training and assessment in manual handling, brushcutting, tractor digging
and chainsaw maintenance and use. This will be followed by a week long course
in practical trail construction techniques. More |
