Winter League Round 2
Feb
05 Chewy,
bogin, muky, guttery…… there where many different words to describe
the sticky, gritty, black mud at the PLUSH winter league race in Ballycarton Forest
. Somehow it managed to get everywhere from between your cogs to between your
teeth and offered very little grip to the large variety of tyres that slid down
the Ballycarton hillside. For the second event of the PLUSH winter league there
was two race runs counting as two separate rounds in the 3 race league so there
was everything to play for. There was a great turnout of riders and up lifters
with mini bikes, lawnmowers and even feet getting the riders to the top. Yet more
hard work from Trevor Fairbrother and crew kept the course rideable and still
great fun, with times not a lot slower than the ‘nearly dry’ previous
round. Final
League positions
U14
Michael Gordon was the only U14 brave enough to tackle the course and put in some
times that where faster than some U16s!
U16
Christie Brown showed his consistency to take the winter league win followed closely
by Ewan Doherty and Peter Davey.
Vets
Couldn’t have been closer in the Vets... Peter Popham took the win with
2 wins out of 3. Tom Clogher and Derek Cowan tied for second place, both with
100 points. Looks like it will be an interesting season.
Ladies
Michelle faced the whole series alone and put in some pretty handy times.
Masters
Marty McGuigan stamped his authority with 3 wins out of three. Joe ward was never
far away in second with Ian McIntyre making his M3 investment worth while in third.
Seniors
Ricky Lawrence put in some great times to take the senior win ahead of an improving
Joe O’Neill and a fast Colm Bradley. Juniors
The younger of the Wolfe brothers finished clear winner but was on occasion pushed
by second place Steven McClintock who tied the position with Eoin Kane
Elite
A perfect 3 out of 3 for Glyn O’Brien who managed to ride super fast times
in the poor conditions. A return to the scene for Andy Yoong earned him a joint
second in the series despite missing the first round. Ricky McKillen shared 2
nd showing he can organize a great race and kick ass down the hill.
Gerard Wolfe would have finished 2 nd in the Elite if he hadn’t signed on
as senior in round 1.
The Craic
DH racing is SMARTer than messing about in cars Swamps
and buckets work nearly as well as power washers Lawnmowers
are the new mini bikes Mountain
Bikes are better in the mud than 5 tone Army Landrovers Andy
Smith was almost invisible in his new camo gear
New Bikes on Show
Michael White was out on his brand new Gemini DH, not the best day for a maiden
voyage but it seemed to go ok. Also forgot to mention Bradleys new Iron Horse
SGS last week.
The 2005 Plush Winter League attracted 76 riders in total which is a great turn
out considering its almost as far north as you can get in Ireland . Well done
to all the riders. Well done to the Plush crew for hosting a great pair of events,
excellent timing, live commentary, relaxed and friendly organization, great racing……..
just how it should be.
