Southern Cross DH Race Munster Championships + Munster Series Round 3 Oilean Chleire, Baltimore, Co Cork Saturday 18th June 2005 May 05 The Track Track is taking shape with a few very tasty jumps going in including a step down with a car as the take off ramp, step up as well as a few very technical corners down low. The DH course is going to be mostly on the same course but with a different, more technical start overlooking Roaring water bay. Race Format First up is the Munster champs DH race, 1 rider leaving every minute against the clock. 1 run and that’s that.
Following this, the heats of the Elimination Race begin. Four riders drawn from an open draw race each other on a variation of the DH track for points. 5 for 1st 3 for 2nd 2 for 3rd 1 for 4th The totals are then added up and the top 16 go into the quarter finals. Then top 2 qualify. Final results are then done by class and placed by points and if tied will be decided by their time in the DH race. The racing will be divided into U-14 & U-16’s as 1 class, vets and novices/hardtail as another and then everyone else.
Schedule Saturday 18th June - Open practice starts at 10 in the morning and finishes at 3 o’clock. Munster Champs starts at 4pm until finish and then the Elimination race starts at 6 until finish (approx). The Prize giving/Hawaiian beach party will then be held in Ciaran Danny Mike’s pub close to the Finish line at 10pm after the B-B-Q. Theme is Hawaiian so loudest shirt wins something Sunday 19th June - Get over the Hangover, go for a swim or do some Lake Jumping on the bikes provided (unless you want to soak your nice shiny bike in sea water) before heading home. Where is it?Oilean Chleire (Cape Clear island) is situated off Baltimore county Cork; the track itself is found simply by walking up the road from the Ferry up to Ciaran Danny Mike’s pub and is on the hill opposite. Accommodation Given that the race is being held on an island, accommodation will be limited. The 3 options are are follows: 1: B&B, Barbeque and the ferry for €50 2:Hostel bed, Barbeque and ferry for €40 or 3: Ferry out, Barbeque and camping for €25 All of these apply to the Saturday night and places are limited so first come first served! Sign on will be at the pub (there’s only 1 at the bottom of the course so you will find it) and any outstanding Munster series entry fees will be sorted out there. Ferry details will be posted closer to the race. Ferry is only a passenger ferry.
